Over the past few years, we have all seen the (partial) video clips posted to social media by professional bystanders who attempt to “audit” emergency workers as they go about their jobs.
Often, these professional bystanders, who know nothing about how the emergency services work or operate, are motivated to stick a camera in your face in the hope that they will get a couple of quid by monetising their videos.
Until now, emergency workers have had no choice other than to be subjected to this annoying habit, knowing that the “auditor” or, sovereign citizen, in front of them will probably upload the video to social media.
But, my friends, there is a way that you can ‘fight’ back in a non-aggressive way; by playing copyrighted music on your phone as the professional bystander records you.
The effect of doing this will mean that the professional bystander and attention seekers will not be able to monetise their video since the copyright holder of the music you play whilst being recorded will either block the video from being uploaded to social media or will claim the earnings from it.
Suppose the professional bystander tries to apply a creative commons to the video.
In that case, they could also get a copyright strike, meaning that their channel will be at risk of being removed from social media.
Of course, it might not be appropriate to pull up Amazon Music on your phone the next time you are ‘doorstepped’ by a professional bystander or “auditor”.
So why not instead just change your ringtone to a well-known song and then get your oppo to ring you when you are being confronted by the professional bystander who wants to “audit” you.
