Teenager Mocked For Wearing Her Air Cadet Uniform To School On Remembrance Day Receives Outpouring Of Support

A teenager who decided to wear her Air Cadet uniform to school on remembrance day, only to be mocked by her classmates, has received an outpouring of support from the armed forces community.

As well as wearing her poppy with pride, the teenager also wore her blue Air Cadet uniform and beret as a mark of respect for the men and women who have died fighting for this country.

But throughout her entire day at school, her fellow pupils mocked her for wearing her uniform.

Ally Gordon, the teenagers mum, wrote on Twitter:

‘Being mocked for the amusement of others all because she wore her uniform at school today.

‘Chin up my beautiful girl, I am & always will be proud of you!’

It was not long until thousands of people on Twitter lent their support to the young RAF-hopeful.

The tweet published by the teenagers mum has attracted nearly 20k likes in less than 24 hours with almost 5k retweets.

Members of the military community were also quick to support the young girl.

Warrant Officer (RAF) Sara Catterall tweeted:

‘Hold your head up kidder. ‘

I wore my uniform today as well because we commemorate our past and our today; those that have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect us.

‘You are part of that family. I’m with you and proud. #RAFFamily’.

Former Commissioner of the London Fire Brigade, Dany Cotton tweeted:

‘Wear your uniform with pride and hold your head high. I was immensely proud to be an Air Cadet and to be able to honour our fallen heroes’.

Group Captain Chris Layden, Station Commander at RAF Lossiemouth, added:

‘And remember, though there might be three or four who chose to mock, there were over thirty thousand wearing RAF uniform with pride yesterday. We stand with her!’

Gulf War Veteran, John Nichol, who was shot down and captured by Iraqi forces before being paraded on TV, tweeted:

‘well done to your daughter for wearing her uniform with pride.

‘Hold your head up high young lady – you have many, many, many of us who support you’.

Overwhelmed with the massive outpouring of support on social media, Ms Gordon tweeted:

‘I cannot thank you all enough for your kind words; we are overwhelmed by the response!

‘Your love & support for my daughter has reminded her just why she wears this uniform with pride!’.
