Amazon Orders Delivered In 30 Minutes? Delivery By Drone Just Became Viable

As an existing Amazon Prime member, I am already quite impressed by the fact that if I order something online today, then it can be delivered to me tomorrow.

For 7.99 each month – which is how much it costs to be an Amazon Prime customer – I also do not have to pay 3.49 postage and packaging every time I place an order.

But imagine ordering something right now and getting it 30 minutes later?

That is precisely what Prime Air is all about; delivering small items to you by drone in under 30 minutes.

The Federal Aviation Administration in the USA has just approved Amazon’s Prime Air for flight following years of vigorous testing and verification of its various in-flight safety systems.

The years of testing means that the drones will be able to deliver your package with minimal risk of the drone malfunctioning.

David Carbon, Amazon’s vice president of Prime Air, said

“This certification is an important step forward for Prime Air and indicates the FAA’s confidence in Amazon’s operating and safety procedures for an autonomous drone delivery service that will one day deliver packages to our customers around the world.

“We will continue to develop and refine our technology to fully integrate delivery drones into the airspace, and work closely with the FAA and other regulators around the world to realize our vision of 30-minute delivery.”

Amazon won’t be deploying the drone just yet.

But their FAA approval is a massive step towards rolling out their ‘delivery by air’ service.

In the UK, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has been working alongside Amazon to test its delivery service in the same way that Amazon has been working with the FAA.

So in about two years, you can probably expect the Amazon Prime Air service to start delivering your shopping within 30 minutes of you ordering them.
