WATCH: Underground Electricity Cables ‘Explode’

A video is doing the rounds on social media at the moment (263k views) of the moment when some underground electricity cables ‘exploded’.

The video starts as thick black smoke begins to bellow out of a maintenance hole cover in a residential street.

A noise that can only be described as ‘eerie’ can be heard coming from underneath the cover as the electricity starts to arc between the various cables which are hidden from view.

About 3/4 of the way into the video, sets of flames can then be seen being emitted from under the ground, through the gaps which have been created in the utility hole cover.

Thankfully, nobody was hurt, and the fire service soon arrived on the scene and bought the fire under control.

If you are a firefighter, then feel free to let us know (in the comments section below) how the fire service would have put this fire out – I am assuming that you cannot use water until you know that the electricity has been isolated?
