The Chief Constable of Merseyside Police has appealed for the public’s help in a no holds barred tweet calling for the ‘scum’ who assaulted and burgled a 93-year-old woman in her own home, to be caught.
And, let’s face it if you assault a 93-year-old woman then are you are ‘scum’. Plain and simple.
In fact, ‘scum’ is probably the politest word I can use, having personally fought my next-door neighbour’s intruders when she was burgled some years ago.
But we aren’t typically used to the top brass (or at least, we are not used to the top brass in this country) using straight-talking words which will resonate with the vast majority of decent-minded people.
At around 02:25 hours today (4th March) some vile individuals, with their faces covered, broke into a house in Herm Road, Merseyside, and started to ransack the property while the 93-year-old occupant was asleep upstairs.
One of the scumbags placed his hand over the victim’s mouth to stop her from screaming.
The vile thieves stole the victim’s cash before making off – but not before causing significant bruising to the victims face.
In a tweet shared on the Mersey Police Twitter page, a social media representative for the force said:
“Can you help us find who is responsible for a burglary of an elderly woman’s home in Vauxhall in the early hours of today?
“The woman, who is in her 90’s, suffered bruising to her face in the incident”.
Chief Constable Andy Cooke added:
“This is horrendous.
“Please help us catch the scum who did this.
“And don’t give me any of that no grass culture nonsense.
“This is a 93-year-old woman in her own house who should be afforded respect and dignity.
“Someone knows who did this. Call us or phone Crimestoppers 0800 555 111”.
These direct, no-nonsense words are refreshing to read.
If you are amongst the 0.001% of people who think that this senior police officer should not have been so direct, then you need to take a good look at yourself.
For the straightforward reason that if upon hearing about a 93-year-old woman being assaulted by a scumbag burglar, then your first response is to be offended/triggered by the words of Chief Constable Cooke then I would suggest that you really should take some time to understand the reality of the presence of the evil that exists among us.
Unfortunately, there is a small hardcore of individuals who can only be described as evil and as ‘scum’. And the person who did this to a 93-year-old woman represents both.
Detective Sergeant Richie Shillito said:
“Everyone has the right to feel safe and secure in their own homes, and this was a particularly cowardly and despicable incident involving an elderly lady who was left badly shaken and with visible injuries.
“I know that members of the public will be shocked by what has taken place, and I would appeal for their help in finding out who is responsible and bringing them to justice.
“Were you in the area around Herm Road in the early hours of this morning and saw anyone or anything suspicious?
“Did you capture anything significant on your car’s dash-cam or CCTV camera?
“Please come forward and speak to us so that we can take positive action.
“We understand the huge impact that incidents such as this have on our local communities.
“Since we launched our dedicated Operation Castle, we have seen a significant decrease in the number of burglaries, but we are committed to finding those who are responsible and putting them behind bars.”
The individuals responsible for this attack deserve to be called whatever the majority of society thinks they should be called and they deserve to be labelled as ‘scum’ by someone who has dedicated his working life to bring the wrong-uns to justice and to helping people like this 93-year-old victim.
But let us know what you think in the comments below?
Are you offended more by the words used by this top cop than you are the fact that scumbag burglars have assaulted a 93-year-old woman in her own home?
If so, tell us why in the comments below.
Anyone with information about the above incident is asked to DM @MerPolCC, call 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 20000137884.
Let’s catch the scum responsible for attacking this frail and defenceless 93-year-old woman who was attacked as she slept in her own bed in her own house.
