WATCH: Take A Look Inside The 4,000 Bed Hospital Being Built In East London

Last night, the Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, announced that a 4,000-bed hospital would be built within London’s Excel Centre in east London as the NHS prepares for a rise in patients needed life-saving help as the COVID-19 pandemic spreads around the UK.

And a video has now emerged on social media (scroll down) of the sheer size of the new temporary hospital as a contractor tasked with assisting with the build urged people to take the virus seriously.

In the video, Alex Woodside said:

“I’m here at Excel in central London, just making the new makeshift hospital.

“I didn’t take this virus seriously until I saw this, this morning. I came in, and this is the size of the hall.

“We’ve got 4,000 beds to go in, two morgues; this hall is a kilometre long – and there’s a hall out on the other side as well.

“I just wanted to keep you all updated and if you’re not taking this seriously like I wasn’t I think we really need to start [taking it seriously].

“Because they are expecting an absolute high death toll here, you know? So, there we go; welcome to NHS Nightingale”.

As of Tuesday 24th March, 8,077 confirmed cases of COVID-19 had been detected. But as testing is currently only taking place inside hospitals, the number of cases in the community is expected to be far higher.

So far, 422 people in the UK have died having been infected with the out-of-control virus that originated in Wuhan, China.

Globally, 442,679 people have become infected with the virus with nearly 20,000 people thus far dying.

One of the youngest victims of the virus, 21-year-old Chloe Middleton, died despite having ‘no pre-existing conditions’. Her family made an emotional plea on social media for more people to take the governments stay-at-home and social distancing rules more seriously.
