WATCH: Off-Duty Married Cops Foil Armed Robbery During ‘Date Night’ In Fried Chicken Restaurant
A married couple, both serving police officers, thwarted an armed robbery as they sat down to enjoy some fried chicken during a precious ‘date night’.
CCTV footage (below) shows Officer Nicole McKeown and her husband Detective Chase McKeown each draw their sidearm and confront the masked gunman in a branch of ‘Raising Cane’s in Lousiville, Kentucky.
The suspect was too busy pointing his weapon towards staff to notice the two police officers running up behind him.
Once the officers had their weapons pointed toward the suspect, they issued verbal commands for him to drop his weapon and for him to get down on the ground.
The suspect immediately ran through some doors with the two officers in hot pursuit. He was arrested without incident nearby as local officers rushed to the scene.
The couple, both officers serving with the Elizabethtown Police Department, had just sat down for their weekly Saturday night meal when the male entered the eatery wearing a surgical face mask.
Nicole told NBC that at first, she assumed that the male suspect was wearing the mask because it’s flu season.
Nicole said: ‘I think we kind of both saw him at the same time. I looked at him and said, “That’s kind of odd.'”
Detective Chase had initially handed his wife a cellphone and asked her to call 911, but Nicole was having none of it and joined her husband with weapons drawn.
‘That’s where that repetitiveness and that training kicks in,’ Nicole told NBC.
The suspect was later identified as 30-year-old Justin Carter who appeared in court Monday charged with first-degree robbery, receiving a stolen firearm and possessing a handgun as a convicted felon.
A spokesperson for Raising Cane’s said:
“We are extremely blessed that they chose to dine with us.
“It’s because of good people like Chase and Nicole who give us good hope for tomorrow.
“We’ll never be able to thank them enough.”
Elizabethtown PD praised the officers’ ‘courageous and selfless’ actions via their Instagram account
