Caroline Flack has been found dead only weeks before she was due to stand trial accused of assaulting her boyfriend.

In a statement released this afternoon, her family confirmed her passing.

They commented: “We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today on the 15th February.

“We would ask that the press both respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time.”

A lawyer for the Flack family confirmed that the reality TV star took her own life and was found dead in her East London flat.

She stood down from the dating show after she was charged with assaulting her partner Lewis Burton in December.

A spokesperson for ITV said:

“Everybody at Love Island and ITV is shocked and saddened by this desperately sad news.

“Caroline was a much loved member of the Love Island team and our sincere thoughts and condolences are with her family and friends”.

In her last post published to her 2.4 million Instagram followers two days ago, Ms Flack posted a picture of herself with her dog.

Before her most recent post, Ms Flack had posted on 24th December saying that she had been advised ‘not to go on social media’.

Former Love Island contestant, Zara Holland tweeted to say:

‘Caroline Flack you supported me always, you were so kind to me & my family, I will never forget that.

‘I spoke to you, and gave my support during the recent media intrusion.

‘The media & trolls are killing people. Please THINK before you speak’

‘We don’t know what other people are going through as they almost always present an ‘ok’ front’.
