Dog Walks Into Police Station To ‘Report Itself Missing’

During the early hours of a mid-week morning last week in Texas, USA, a four-legged visitor walked through the public entrance to the front office of the Odessa Police Department.

The dog wasn’t walking in to ask about joining the K-9 department, and the dog was not walking in to leave a ‘present’ on the floor.

The intelligent dog walked through the doors, went over to the front counter and jumped up to, well, stare at the officer behind the front desk.

The dog was friendly. It was not looking for a fight. It did not stroll in, with gritted teeth looking for trouble; or a ball. It wasn’t even looking for somewhere to be sick or sleep.

The dog wanted to make contact with the police because the dog had been reported missing.

In a post shared on the Odessa Police Department Facebook page, a spokesperson for the department explained:

“So…. this happy guy randomly strolled into the front desk of the Police Department last night.

“We’re thinking he wanted to apply for a K-9 position after eliminating a Lassie type situation.

“He was given lots of love and attention until he decided it was time for him to leave. He let himself out and after an exhausting search was not found.

“We were relieved to learn he safely returned to his owner. Chico is welcome back anytime”.

I mean, this is the sort of thing that you would think would be made up. But, it actually happened. And thanks to social media, you get to hear about stories like this one!

Maybe the dog just wanted to let the cops know that he appreciated the work they do. Or perhaps he just felt sorry for the poor guy/girl who was cooped up behind a desk for their entire shift.

Personally, I think that the dog wanted to report that his ball had gone missing but quickly realised how busy the officers were so, did an about-turn and left.

Either way, we loved the story! Be sure to follow our page for more stories like this one which highlights the best of social media.
